AAS organised a webinar on ataxia – a rare neuromuscular degenerative condition . The webinar was held virtually on zoom platform. More than 150 particcipants joined the webinar.The introduction of AAS was given by Manan Gupta (AAS volunteer) through ppt presentation. Then Ms. Archi Gupta (volunteer) gave introduction of AAS patron Dr. Apoorva Pauranik and AAS president Ms. Swasti Wagh.Dr. S.H. Subromony (M.D. neuromuscular Neurology, professor at University of Florida) was our guest speaker. He shared information about ataxia, it’s different types and recent developments in Ataxia research.He discussed about genetic and non-genetic causes of ataxia. He also talked about the genes responsible for most common autosomal recessive cerebellar ataxia.We also came to know that ataxia is not a single disease but a set of problems related to changes in cerebellum. His talk was very informative.AAS patron Dr Apoorva Pauranik gave a detailed summary of the talk in Hindi. He also emphasised the need of DNA testing, genetic counselling and importance of promoting Ataxia research in India.After this, the webinar was followed by the question/answer session. In this session many patients and health care professionals asked their queries.The webinar ended with the vote of thanks by Mrs.Jagruti Upasani (executive member of AAS)
